LOCAL Government Minister Don Page has described a proposed self-certification system for backyard pool safety fences as "user-friendly".
However, Shane Gobby, who visits "thousands" of backyards a year to service pools, believes it means many parents will continue to play "Russian roulette" with their children's lives.
The proposed system, outlined in a discussion paper released by Mr Page, would require owners to register their pool on-line for free and once only, while certifying that it meets safety requirements.
